“Soöruz Lacanau Pro 2008
The 29th edition of the Soöruz Lacanau Pro is held from the 7th of August until the 17th on the Atlantic coast in the town of Lacanau (33,France). This stage of the World Surfing Championship is the time to welcome the surf elite and to spot the new surf geniuses. This competition, as well as allowing the discovery of new talents, is also an opportunity to listen to some unknown music.
A meeting place for the world’s elite
As the eldest French surfing competition, the Soöruz Lacanau Pro has become a very much appreciated and recognized world championship stage throughout the world.
All of the greatest surfers, such as Tom Curren, Kelly Slater or Martin Potter, have once won it and became world champion afterwards.
As for the younger generation, South African Jordy Smith, twice junior world champion already, has won last year’s competition, coming just before Aritz Aramburu. Concerning the Frenchman Jérémy Florès, now ranked 11th's best in the world, he revealed his talent by coming out finalist of the 2006 Soöruz Lacanau Pro.
In order to widen the competition, the Oakley Pro Junior is held from the 7th until the 10th of August 2008. The under 21’s riders look forward to qualify themselves here for the Junior World Championships as well as trying to earn a Wild Card. This pass allows his owner to access the Final Board of the Soöruz Lacanau Pro so as to compete with the world’s bests. On the 11th of August, the day focuses exclusively on women, the best women surfers coming here to win the Oakley Pro Junior Girls.
As no surf competition is held without the classical festivities, the Soöruz Lacanau Pro puts forward many musical events.
Symbol of the "Beach Culture", the Soöruz Lacanau Pro allows the discovery of new musical talents out of a wide range spreading from pop music, rock music and reggae music.
Following these musical meetings, Colgate Max White presents the "Nuits Blanches du Soöruz Lacanau Pro".They enable people to continue their day at the most trendy places of Lacanau.
